Research has shown that the KIA Sedona is the least expensive vehicle to insure, closely followed by the Mazda 5, Ford Escape, and Hyundai Santa Fe.
At the bottom of the list of the least costly cars to insure are Acura ZDX, Audi TTS, Audi A5, and Cadillac Escalade. This means that they are the most expensive ones to insure.
The list, which was issued by an online insurance group known as InsWeb, does not include high-end automobiles like the Lamborghini Murcielago and Porsche Carrera GT. The prices of the vehicles included are below $80,000.
One interesting fact that emerges from the report is that the cheapest cars are not necessarily the cheapest to insure. Studies have shown that many of the people who use these cars are young drivers, which means that they are relatively less experienced. Since inexperienced drivers tend to be involved in more accidents, insuring the vehicles they tend to drive is consequently more expensive. This is why such vehicles as the Ford Focus and Honda Civic are not anywhere near the top of the list.
Other factors are considered when calculating the appropriate insurance for cars besides experience of the drivers. The cost of repair also plays an important role. It is relatively more expensive to insure cars whose replacement parts cost more.
Other important considerations are security and safety features. The vehicles that have installed traction control, antilock brakes, and systems for monitoring tire pressure usually get cheaper insurance rates. GPS locating systems increase the likelihood of a car being recovered even when it gets stolen, something that insurers will also take into consideration.
Many people do not factor in the cost of insurance when they are looking for cars to buy. Yet this is something that will impact the maintenance of your car, especially when you consider the fact that insurance is not something that you pay only once. Whenever you are shopping for a car, remember that what you pay at the showroom does not cover all your expenses.
Nissan has filed for the recall of 605,000 cars because of problems related to the batteries and steering column. Chrysler, on the other hand, recalls 16,000 Jeep Liberty SUVs because of problems in the windshield-wiper system. General Motors, on its part, is recalling 13,780 of 2010 and 2011 models of Cadillac DTS and Buick Lucerne due to the risk of fire as a result of leakage of steering fluid.
This problem may be due to either the alternator or starter cable that touches the return line of the steering, resulting in wear. When the steering fluid leaks, it could fall onto hot parts of the engine, resulting in fire. The affected cars use V8 engines.
All those whose cars are involved should take them to a nearby dealership where the lines will be rerouted or secured to avoid contact.
Nissan recalls 283,000 Xterra SUVs and 18,500 Sentra vehicles that develop problems in the steering columns because of corrosion. This could hinder movement on the lower joint, cracking the steering shaft.
18,500 Sentra vehicles are being recalled because of a defect of the battery, specifically in the positive battery cable. Starting the cars or stalling them at low speeds can prove difficult.
The affected cars are those manufactured from 2001 to 2010. The company said that the defect has caused no injuries or accidents.
All people whose vehicles are affected will be notified by December so that they can take them to a dealership. The fault will be repaired at no cost.
Chrysler recalls the 2008 Jeep Liberty SUVs since the wipers may fail if water gets into their windshield-wiper motors.
Owners of affected cars should take them to their closest dealership so that the windshield-wiper motors can be replaced for free.
The Toyota automobile company expects to repair around 1.53 million cars around the world for problems associated with fuel pump wiring and brake master cylinder seal. The majority of the automobiles will be recalled in Japan and America. They include Avalon and other models.
It was only recently that the company recalled 1.3 million Matrix and Corolla cars in Canada and America. The cars had defects in their engine control modules, which could result in stalling of the vehicles.
Toyota has recalled over 10 million cars within the last year, many of which manifested unintended acceleration. This has created a serious dent on the reputation of the largest car-marker in the world. As a consequence, the safety regulators in the United States are scrutinizing the company even more closely.
According to a report that Toyota filed with the Ministry of Transport in Japan, the company will recall around 600,000 cars for either faulty fuel pump wiring or cylinder seal. Eleven car models will be affected, among of which are the high-end Lexus IS, GS, and Crown Sedan.
In America, the company’s sales unit stated that the company expects to recall about 740,000 Highlander, Avalon, Lexus GS300, IS350, and IS250 models for replacing brake master cylinder seal to prevent the likelihood of break fluid leakage. This fault results in the illumination of the brake warning lamp.
According to Paul Nolasco, Toyota’s spokesperson in Tokyo, the company will determine whether it will file other official recalls in different markets depending on the prevailing safety regulations. The affected models are marketed in many parts of the world, including South America, China, Europe, Oceania, and Africa.
The spokesperson emphasized that there have been no accidents associated with the faults. He did not reveal the financial impact that the recall is expected to have on the company, explaining that it was not the company’s policy to reveal recall cost estimates.
